What is an LED street light, and why choose one?

An LED street light is a pole-mounted luminaire using LEDs as its light source for lighting streets and roads. Compared with classic sodium-vapour street lamps, it delivers the same light level with far less energy, and because it directs light onto the road, less spill light escapes to the sky and surroundings.

An LED street light delivers full light instantly, with no warm-up delay, and its long lifespan removes years of maintenance costs like lamp changes, bucket trucks and crews. That's why municipalities and private estates are rapidly replacing old street luminaires with LED.

6 points to check when choosing a street luminaire

1) Power and luminous flux: chosen by road width and pole height. 2) Optics: an asymmetric road lens carries light along the lane and allows wider pole spacing. 3) IP protection: at least IP66 for outdoors. 4) Impact resistance (IK): important in vandalism-prone areas. 5) Driver and surge protection: determines lifespan against grid fluctuations. 6) Efficacy (lm/W): the light per watt directly sets your electricity bill.

Street lamp or street luminaire?

What's commonly called a "street lamp" is, technically, a street luminaire: the complete lighting unit made up of housing, optics, LED board and driver. "LED street lamp", "LED street luminaire" and "LED road luminaire" describe the same product family. Asso's AQUA series is the locally made representative of this family.

The price advantage of buying from the manufacturer

Asso is a manufacturer; because we make the LED street luminaire at our own plant, no distributor or dealer margin enters the price. That difference flows straight into the quote. The unit price drops as quantity rises — we offer tiered pricing for municipal and contractor projects.

How many watts of LED street lamp for which road?

As a general starting point: 50–70 W for side streets and estate roads, 70–100 W for neighbourhood and collector roads, 150–250 W for main avenues and boulevards, 250–350 W for ring roads and highways.
